Another Kelantan sergeant arrested for graft in less than a week

KOTA BARU: A police sergeant was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of RM1,800 from a suspected drug pusher in exchange for not pursuing a drug case. The 50-year-old sergeant, who is attached to the Kota Baru Police station, was arrested at a restaurant in Pengkalan Datu here at about 3pm. It is learnt that he had asked for the bribe just hours before being arrested. Kelantan MACC director Datuk Moh Shamsudin Yusof said the sergeant will be remanded on Wednesday to facilitate an investigation. Last week, a 29-year-old policeman – also a sergeant – was detained by the MACC for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of RM2,000 in exchange for releasing a detainee whose urine had tested positive for illicit drugs.
