Otago Polytechnic is pumping nearly $300million into Dunedin's economy each year, and it appears the figure is growing, a new report has revealed. ''Our success undoubtedly benefits the regional economy, but that success is itself driven by the support we have from local businesses and communities.'' The report estimated the ''total economic impact'' of the polytechnic by using several data sources to estimate its direct and total expenditure effects. A significant number (16%) came from overseas in 2016, which represented a 31.5% increase in international enrolments, compared with 2015. The result was attributed primarily to the growth of the polytechnic's Auckland campus over the past four years.
