Anger at 'reckless' Sonia trip plan

Many said they would have spoken up had Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi not been closely involved with planning the trip. New Delhi, Aug. 10: Congress leaders today slammed the "reckless planning" behind Sonia Gandhi's Varanasi tour last week, wondering how she could have been put through such a gruelling trip that ended with her taking ill during a rally. Sonia, 69, took ill on the afternoon of August 2 towards the end of an impressive roadshow in Varanasi, the Prime Minister's constituency in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh. While none would speak on record, some leaders, including a few general secretaries, expressed "shock and anger" although Sonia has almost recovered and is about to be released from hospital. But that was 13 years ago when Sonia, who now feels uncomfortable in humid weather because of a nagging breathing problem, had no serious ailment.
