A “shocking” number of fines from £200 were issued in York to revellers at the weekend travelling from neighbouring Tier 3 areas. There were claims people were travelling from the south of England – where millions are living in Tier 4 – to Northumberland, which is in Tier 3. The vast majority were issued to Tier 3 residents who visited York to mix indoors, which is in clear breach of restrictions. “Where we encounter people who refuse to adhere to regulations and believe their pint is more important than someone’s life, we will use our enforcement powers. Police and civic chiefs have warned of tourists heading to Cumbria – the Lake District in particular – during lockdown.
