OTTAWA—Conservative MP Andrew Scheer dropped his sister-in-law from his office staff on Tuesday after his successor as Tory leader said Scheer’s use of public funds to employ her did not meet his “very high bar” of ethical standards. Speaking to reporters earlier, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole said he planned to discuss the situation with Scheer later in the day. And while O’Toole noted Scheer did not break the rules by hiring his sister-in-law, he said his own standards go beyond the rules. “One thing is clear, Trudeau MPs continue to believe that they are entitled to a different set of rules than average Canadians. The act includes a broader definition of an office holder’s relatives, looping in those related to the MP by marriage.
