Alberta reports 1,516 new COVID-19 cases as province expands AstraZeneca eligibility


Alberta will start offering the AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine to people age 40 and over, Premier Jason Kenney announced Sunday, as the province reported 1,516 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths. Alberta is lowering the minimum age to receive the Astra Zeneca Covid-19 vaccine from 55 to 40. The total number of active cases increased to 17,935 across the province, from 17,307 active cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. There were 800 new variant cases identified, bringing the percentage of active variant cases to 54.5 per cent of active cases. Of the 270,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine received by the province, 97,690 doses had been administered as of Friday, and 170,646 doses still remained, according to Alberta Health.
