The Alberta government is to spend up to $30 million to build a long-term drug addiction treatment facility on the Tsuut'ina First Nation west of Calgary. Premier Danielle Smith says it's one of 11 recovery centres planned or underway in Alberta as part of its long-term strategy to help people with drug addiction. Other centres include ones in Red Deer, Lethbridge, Calgary, Grande Prairie and Enoch First Nation near Edmonton. Smith says the treatment would be free to all Albertans and the Tsuut'ina centre is to offer holistic treatment to Indigenous and non-Indigenous people from around the area. "This partnership reflects our government's unwavering commitment to walk together with First Nations to increase addiction treatment capacity across Alberta," Smith said at a news conference at the Tsuut'ina Nation on Wednesday.
