The Akarana Falcons defended the New Zealand Rugby League national premiership title with a comprehensive 51-20 victory over the Counties Stingrays in Auckland on Saturday. The Falcons had too much polish at Mt Smart Stadium, rarely looking troubled against a Stingrays outfit that ultimately paid the price for a lackadaisical defensive effort. Immediately after halftime the Falcons struck again, with wing Taumata grabbing a second try in the right-hand corner. There was a prompt reply by the Stingrays, with Nicholas Halalilo scoring, although the resistance ultimately proved futile.
