That’s why as the summer air show season begins we need to thank the men and women who remind us that flying is very special. Klatt, who has wowed the crowds in the past in more conventional acrobatic aircraft shifted to this bizarre hybrid three years ago. On Tuesday, Klatt invited me to go flying with Dell Coller, his crew chief and fellow acrobatic pilot on the John Klatt Airshows team. In the two seat Extra 300L, we went through the kinds of maneuvers you need to eat your protein to handle; hammerheads, spins and torque rolls.
