Tibble said the ministry was working through a database of businesses to provide advice and identify businesses who needed extra staff, so those without work can be employed elsewhere. “We're getting more inquiries on a daily basis.”Great South chief executive Graham Budd said the regional development agency has been working alongside the ministry to support Southland businesses. As part of the Regional Covid-19 Business Response, Great South has conducted surveys with businesses to understand their staffing levels. The 752 businesses Great South has spoken to so far represent 15,000 full time jobs. Gore District Council has also been supporting businesses, but this work wasn't part of the Keep New Zealand Working campaign, spokesperson Sonia Gerken said.
