Agencies remain on alert over communal fallout in country

Intelligence agencies have alerted the Centre that the attack on Amarnath pilgrims killing seven people could trigger a communal flare up in Jammu and other parts of the country, prompting the NDA government to strategise to diffuse any backlash. According to the intelligence reports shared at the highest level the attack is an attempt to disrupt peace and cause communal disharmony in the country. Top government sources told DNA that agencies are alert over the fallout in the rest of the country and measures have been taken to maintain calm. An intelligence alert on 100-150 yatris being targeted to disrupt communal harmony was generated on June 25, sources said. Intelligence agencies are also monitoring social media closely to ensure rumour mongering and communally sensitive remarks do not lead to any sort of disharmony.
