Agapanthus is one of our most popular flowering plants. Troops in the Second Boer War in South Africa liked the agapanthus plants they saw flowering and some were brought home. However it can be a real threat to native plants especially if it becomes established in coastal areas where it can smother native species. There are now at least 10 different species of agapanthus available for the home gardener. So the plant known also as the African lily has both good and bad features.
