After popping the question, Ottawa man submits city request to rename spot he did it ‘proposal pond’

Ever since the couple’s engagement and subsequent wedding, the Lister family has apparently called the pond “proposal pond” and have “made new memories there with family and friends,” according to a commemorative naming proposal released by the city on Thursday. Diane Deans, whose ward includes the park where the proposed “Proposal Pond” is located, said she submitted the request on behalf of Lister after he wrote her a letter outlining the couple’s romantic story. “It was meaningful to them and he asked if we would name the pond ‘Proposal Pond,'” she said. Two other requests call for naming ice rinks in Kanata South in honour of Chris Neil and Chris Phillips. Deans said her office is now conducting a survey among residents of the neighbourhood to see if they like the proposed name for the pond, which is currently nameless.
