Thousands of North Island homes were thrown, without warning, into shivering darkness on a bitterly cold night. Throughout, the public was kept in the dark about the prospect of being left in the dark. This may have been less an act of wilful suppression than a gasping lack of foresight. It’s the report of terrified scientists, in their thousands, raising an alarm based on what they’re increasingly certain of. A ‘’collective effort involving every sector of the economy, every community, and almost every government agency and their minister will be needed to avert a climate crisis,’’ the Minister of Climate Change, James Shaw, says.
