Deane Simmonds and Annelies Basten are the couple behind Sumner’s latest vegan cafe, Bonobo. These are the three key elements behind Sumner’s latest vegan cafe, Bonobo, owned by Christchurch man Deane Simmonds​ and his Dutch partner Annelies Basten​. Opened last week, the cafe is a fundraiser for the couple’s long-term goal of buying land and opening their own animal sanctuary to rescue farm animals. Simmonds previously worked for ChristchurchNZ and Basten was a fundraiser for animal charities before opening the cafe. Bonobo is located at 25 Marriner St, Sumner, Christchurch.
