Vikhe-Patil’s son Sujay has been elected from the Ahmednagar Lok Sabha constituency on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket and Vikhe-Patil himself was all set to join the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections. “I didn’t even campaign for the party during Lok Sabha elections. The Congress in Maharashtra suffered its worst defeat in the Lok Sabha elections in May when it won the single seat of Chandrapur in Vidarbha. Many Congress stalwarts like state Congress chief and former chief minister Ashok Chavan and another former chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde lost from their home constituencies. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress had won 2 seats of the total 48 in Maharashtra, including Chavan’s Nanded seat.
