African delegation visits Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute to advance technological sovereignty


Date: 2026-03-01By: Nana Appiah AcquayeA high-level delegation comprising defense ministers, military attachés, ambassadors and representatives from the African Union and the United Nations has visited the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing technological sovereignty across the continent. The delegation was received by the Institute’s Deputy Director General, Yitagesu Desalegn, who outlined the organization’s strategic priorities. He emphasized that developing homegrown artificial intelligence systems and applications is critical to addressing cross-sector challenges and strengthening Africa’s ability to shape its own technological future. Particular attention was given to the Institute’s Startup Center, which was highlighted as a platform for nurturing emerging innovators capable of contributing to Ethiopia’s development and enhancing Africa’s global technological standing. During the tour, delegates visited the Startup Center, Robotics Workshop, Data Center and Showroom, where they observed ongoing projects and research activities.
