NEW DELHI: The government is mulling proposals to merge the railway budget with the general budget and also advance the presentation of the latter by a month, a top finance ministry official has said. The budget process begins by the end of September with the budget notification.The government has already set up a committee to review the proposal to do away with the railway budget. "Merging of the railway budget with union budget is under consideration. Joint secretary (budget) of the finance ministry is in charge of the committee. After which a cabinet note will be floated by the finance ministry," a senior railway board official said.
