The album was called “Sons of Ethiopia,” it’s recently been reissued on Frederiksberg Records, and it still sounds like nothing else. The members of Admas were born too late to contribute to the “golden age” of Ethiopian song. The Derg “were not against music,” says Admas keyboardist Tewodros Aklilu. The members of Gasha played Ethiopian songs for Ethiopian crowds, but their ears stretched across the city. On “Sons of Ethiopia,” those bounced tracks swirl the sound, putting the elegance of the band’s arrangements to the test.
