Acquittal overturned, ex-Yayasan Selangor deputy GM jailed 5 years, fined RM225,000

SHAH ALAM: A former deputy general manager of a Selangor state foundation was jailed five years and fined RM225,000 today when the Shah Alam High Court overturned his acquittal for three bribery charges. Judge Datuk Ghazali Cha handed down the sentence to Mohd Saifulruddin Sulaiman, 38, after allowing an appeal by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Mohd Farez Rahman today. The judge ordered for the accused to serve a total of 17 months in jail should he fail to pay the fine. For the first and second count, the judge sentenced him to five years jail and RM100,000 fine for each charge. However, the court allowed Saifulruddin's application for a stay of the execution of his jail sentence pending appeal and set bail of RM30,000 with one surety.
