Access to clean water is a right, not a luxury

Lead-contaminated drinking water in communities across the country is, of course, a serious issue. It was identified in the published report “Tainted Water” last November and, within seven months, some MPs were stirred to action, demanding that $400 million be spent to combat the issue and suggesting other remedies. By comparison, the tainted water (mercury poisoning) at Grassy Narrows has been known since the 1990s and the problem remains unresolved to this day. And that is only one of many Indigenous communities that lack clean water and other basic amenities of life. Access to clean water and health care should not be decided by where you live in this country.
