The European captain, Westwood’s longtime partner in Ryder Cups past, looked as though he might not want to watch. Even some of the American players were shaking their heads and trying to keep fans from shouting abuse. “Irrespective of the score, the U.S. players are policing the fans as they are embarrassed of there (sic) behavior,” vice-captain Ian Poulter tweeted. “Obviously it’s unfortunate because I think that 85 per cent of the people are great and I love playing in America. But for a supposedly blind submission of lineups, the order of play has produced a good number of intriguing matches.
