Abolishing cheques a major issue for the digitally challenged and charities


Timaru Senior Citizens community support co-ordinator Chris Thomas is concerned about the impact on the elderly of cheques being abolished. Charities in the region, who rely on cheque donations, are also nervous about the change. But it is not only the technically challenged who are facing major change with the abolition of cheques, charities are also concerned. Presbyterian Support South Canterbury chief executive Carolyn Cooper said the organisation received a mixture of cheques, online donations and cash. To counteract the potential loss of donations by cheque, Hospice South Canterbury has set up a virtual coffee club.
