Our Special CorrespondentNew Delhi: The technical courses such as diploma in management and computer application offered by 15 institutions will now be regulated by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The UGC's regulations on distance education notified in June 2017 removed the provision for giving approval to standalone institutions. On the directions of Delhi High Court, the UGC amended its regulations and allowed the standalone institutions to operate for one more year. Later, the human resource development (HRD) ministry decided to entrust the regulatory responsibility of these institutions to the AICTE for the technical courses. The AICTE Council meeting on January 22 discussed the issue and decided to give approval from the coming academic session to the technical courses offered by the standalone institutions.
