But that could be a thing of the past, thanks to a new AI system developed by researchers from Texas A&M University. The system monitors and tracks a user’s emotional state, and could soon be used to flag if your partner is in an argumentative mood. To understand how a user is feeling, the system monitors their voice, detecting any changes in timbre or pitch that could indicate their mood. “So we are transforming the speech signal and deriving measures that are emotion-dependent, behavior-dependent, but not identity-dependent.”The researchers tested the system with 34 couples, and found that the AI was able to detect signs of conflict with 79% accuracy. However, it remains unclear when the system will be available, or how much it will cost.
