Racist discrimination in Guangzhou earlier this month caused outrage in Africa, provoking rare official protests to China by several countries. Africans in the city who were contacted recently by the Guardian said they still faced hostility and racism, prompted by fears they may be carriers of Covid-19. “We use the receptionist to order food,” Nnabugwu said. The 25-year-old, who requested anonymity, said he was denied entry at “about 15 hotels” and slept on the streets.
