ADB Provides $100m to bolster Covid-19 response

Fatima Yasmin, Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), and Manmohan Parkash, Country Director, ADB, signed the loan agreements on behalf of Bangladesh and ADB respectively. The assistance under the Covid-19 Response Emergency Assistance Project will help strengthen Bangladesh’s response to the Covid-19 outbreak by providing urgently needed health equipment, medical supplies, diagnostic systems, and upgrading of the capacity of the health workforce. ADB has a strong track record of responding rapidly to provide targeted support to Bangladesh in times of emergencies. On 7 May, ADB approved $500 million to strengthen Bangladesh’s efforts to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. ADB is committed to achieving a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific, while sustaining its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty.
