Perak Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon attributed the rise to better detection and awareness campaigns. “With the steps taken, it has made it easier for the health authorities to detect the disease earlier,” he told reporters at his office on Wednesday. He added that during the same period TB deaths increased 50% from 151 deaths in 2010 to 227 deaths in 2016. Dr Mah said the health authorities also screened risk groups such as those with diabetes, kidney, lung, and HIV diseases. He said the health authorities are also providing pamphlets and posters on TB in various languages, and handing out in health facilities.
