A lesson from an imperfect white oak for those who live for perfection

Here, Sal Ritacca tells us about his towering white oak tree that grows just steps from his house in Regal Heights. We also hear from others in the neighbourhood who admire the oak, long a community landmark. This majestic white oak embraces my entire house from front to back with its branches, much like protecting arms surrounding my home. It’s more than 20 m (66 feet) tall and towers over the roof of my home, which sits at the corner of Regal Rd. I’ve been told, though I haven’t been able to confirm, that most of the original oak trees in this area were long ago harvested for masts for sailing ships.
