The 'lucky money' tradition means the banknotes worth hundreds of millions enter into circulation during the Chinese New Year period. New banknotes were available at some commercial banks in packs of HK$20 notes or HK$50 notes, while individual banknotes could also be purchased. Some were eager to get their hands on banknotes of the 2018 series. New notes and good-as-new notes, or 'ying-san' notes, are available at some banks until Saturday.
