The poorest, most marginalized women do not have access to family planning, and age at marriage is still very low. Eighty per cent of India’s expenditure on family planning is on sterilization, only 1.5 per cent is on temporary methods. Politicians think being engaged with family planning means you lose an election, so they all stay away. Q Can’t they talk about other types of family planning? Inaction in family planning comes at a very big price.
