The Rohingya refugees who have fled to this side of the border deserve to have a decent life — which means having access to basic amenities like food, shelter, medical treatment, and education. This is clearly not sustainable, but nor is the plan to relocate them to the uninhabitable island of Bhasan Char. A better solution lies in spreading the Rohingya refugee population throughout Bangladesh, until eventually they can be safely repatriated to their homeland. This would save a lot of the funds, which are now going towards expensive housing projects in Bhasan Char. Spreading out the Rohingya simply makes sense, from a a financial, humanitarian, and national security point of view.
