A layup by Teaira McCowan at the buzzer lifted the Indiana Fever to an 81-80 win over the host Liberty on Friday night in the season opener for both teams. Tina Charles had made two free throws to give the Liberty a 1-point lead with seven seconds left. Her free throw with 2 minutes 16 seconds left gave Indiana a 79-78 lead. Neither team could score again until the final seven seconds. McCowan, the Fever’s first-round draft pick, finished with 11 points.
