As president from 2003 until 2010, it was Laporta who, in 2008, took a chance on appointing the inexperienced Guardiola as Barcelona manager. Guardiola, whose mother tragically died from Covid-19 in Barcelona last month, will return to the city to live at some stage, that is for sure.
