Etim EkpimahThe Akwa Ibom State Government has accused opposition in the state of planning to disrupt the December 2 local government elections through non-indigenes. “The cardinal responsibility of government is to ensure peace and safety of the people to carry out their legitimate functions. The state government remains dedicated to fulfilling this cardinal responsibility as defined by the principles of the social contract,” the statement said. Meanwhile, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress has accused the Peoples Democratic Party of a plot to rig the election. However, the police in the state have assured voters of adequate security during the elections, especially in areas marked as flashpoints.
