PHOTO: LUISA GIRAOThe Government is investing up to $9 million in a project to help Southland farmers use their land more sustainably. Agriculture Minister Damien O’Connor yesterday announced the funding and launched the project Thriving Southland Change and Innovation Project at Five Rivers, Southland. The project would help farmers and growers - from Southland’s 21 river catchment groups - to make the changes required to lift their environmental sustainability. He said central government’s $6 million to $9 million package acknowledged "all good work the farmers are doing". "They [Thriving Southland] are building co-ordination and support for catchment groups but they need resources to do it.
