Seven officials of the police’s Detective Branch (DB) have been suspended for allegedly kidnapping a local businessman and collecting Tk17 lakh in ransom money in Cox’s Bazar. After suspension, they were sent to Cox’s Bazar Police Lines later, said OC Monirul, adding that a committee was also formed to investigate the allegations against the policemen. The OC said the seven DB officers were returning to Cox’s Bazar on a microbus after releasing the hostage when army personnel stopped their vehicle. Gafur said he was whisked away from outside a restaurant in Cox’s Bazar town by men identifying themselves as DB officials. “After my brother was released, the army has recovered the money as well.”He demanded stern punishment of the DB officials involved in the kidnapping.
