68th Republic Day parade: Many firsts this year

The 68th Republic Day parade at Rajpath this year witnessed a string of never-seen-before events. From the spectacular flypast by indigenously built light combat aircraft - Tejas - to the marchpast by National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, country's military might was at full display along the 3km distance from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan. The parade started with four Mi-17 helicopters flying with the national flag above the Rajpath. Abu Dhabi crown prince and deputy supreme commander of the UAE armed forces Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the chief guest at this year's Republic Day celebrations at Rajpath. The national capital was wrapped in an unprecedented security cover with thousands of security force personnel keeping a hawk-eye vigil to ward off any terror strike or untoward incident during the 68th Republic Day celebrations.
