Mumbai: At least 54 flights have been diverted from Mumbai airport and another 52 cancelled since midnight as the main runway was shut down after an aircraft overshot the runway during landing, a spokesperson of the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) said. There was heavy rain in Mumbai and the aircraft, after landing, overshot the runway. Mumbai airport, which is one of the busiest in the country, is expected to see delays, and diversions on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall and subsequent closure of the main runway. On a normal day, the Mumbai airport handles as many as 940 flights. Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, said that it has diverted as many as five flights and cancelled 10 more from Mumbai airport due to closure of the runway.
