5.2 million new voters confirmed after KPMG recommends register cleanup

Slightly above 5.2 million new voters have been confirmed by the electoral agency to be eligible to vote in the August election. The statistics from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission comes after the clean-up of the voter register as recommended by KPMG. It suggested the cleanup of the continuous voter register between 2013 and March to remove flaws that could lead to irregularities. “We expect the IEBC to provide to the nation the final register that will be used so that we can know where the numbers are,” Duale said. In the latest voter statistics, the Rift Valley takes the lion’s share with 1.2 million new voters registered since 2013, raising the number of voters from the previous 3,453,855 to 4,659,950.
