36-year-old Delhi resident held for multiple suicide attempts


He was booked under Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the IPC, which is a bailable offence. He was held Sunday after he approached the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and allegedly threatened to commit suicide if he did not get a place for his kiosk. The man, identified as Vinod Kumar Diwakar, had on two earlier occasions attempted suicide outside the residence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and once at Vijay Chowk, said police. In March, 2011, he allegedly tried to set himself on fire at Vijay Chowk but was rescued by security personnel. A 36-year-old man was arrested Sunday for allegedly attempting suicide on several occasions.
