In an article published on its official website, the United States Geological Survey has said that since February 1, 2024, about 350 earthquakes have been recorded at Mount St. Helens . It reached a peak in early June when 38 earthquakes per week were recorded.The USGS has said that the Short-term increase in earthquake rates is common at Mount St. Helens and is considered part of background seismic activity . The magma rises slowly through the lower crust and accumulates in a reservoir about 2.5 to 6 miles or 4‒10 km below sea level.
