The government will recruit 35,000 new teachers next year to help address the human resource gap in public schools, President William Ruto has announced. Ruto said this is in line with his pledge to bridge the shortage gap currently being witnessed in the country. "We have already employed 35, 000 teachers this year and the largest we intend to add next year because we want to have our children get the necessary quality education," Ruto said. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and education cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu are among the other leaders who attended. Teachers service commission announced the mass recruitment in January, the first by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
