According to Algeria’s civil defense service, on Wednesday, a passenger bus accident in the country’s south resulted in the death of 34 people with 12 others sustaining injuries. The agency said the collision between the bus and a commercial vehicle caused a fire as rescue operations were ongoing. The civil defence agency said the bus was carrying passengers between Tamanrasset, deep in the Sahara desert, and Adrar, a town of about 2,000 residents to the northwest. According to a federal road safety agency, speed is the primary factor in collisions in the nation. According to Nacef Abdelhakim, head of road safety for Algeria, there were around 23,000 traffic incidents there in 2022, which resulted in 3,409 fatalities and more than 30,000 injuries.
