277 families displaced in Cebu fire


ABOUT 277 families were rendered homeless after fire razed 70 houses including the ancestral house of self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa late on Thursday in Barangay Hipodromo, Cebu City. Marikit said Cahipa and Bakante are residential areas where several commercial establishments including internet shops were also gutted by the fire. Meanwhile, Lea Ouano Japson, head of the Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS), said some 277 families comprised of 1,195 individuals were displaced after the fire. Japson said the fire victims are temporarily staying at the Hipodromo gym and Hipodromo Elementary School. The DSWS is also preparing P20,000 to P10,000 cash assistance for the families.
