Ancajas battles Barrios for sixth world title defense

Filipino champion Jerwin Ancajas will defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight title for the sixth time today (Manila time) against Mexican Alejandro Santiago Barrios at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, USA. Trainer Joven Jimenez described his 26-year-old ward in good spirits before the fight looking forward to a brighter future in boxing. Jimenez assessed that Ancajas showed a lot of improvements as a fighter since becoming a world champion two years ago after beating McJoe Arroyo of Puerto Rico in Taguig City. “We’d like to make a good fight with that very good Thai fighter (Ruvingsai) in the future,” said Arum. Arum believes that despite being the favorite, Ancajas will approach Barrios cautiously.
