26 years after conviction, 2 exonerated in false rape claim

A judge in state Supreme Court in Manhattan exonerated VanDyke Perry and Gregory Counts, who had always maintained their innocence. The third man was never apprehended in connection with the woman’s bogus rape accusation. Perry spent 10 years in prison before being paroled, and Counts was in prison for 26 years before being paroled last year. The woman told investigators that in 1991 she sold sex for drugs and that the DNA may have come from that. She told them she had been pressured into making the claim by her boyfriend, who was under suspicion of shooting Perry.
