The government has identified 26 suspects involved in the diversion of subsidised fertiliser from the National Cereals and Produce Board. This comes after 3,505 bags of DAP fertiliser worth Ksh 4.5 million, stolen from the boardwere recovered at a rented Kenya Railways go-down Nakuru in May. Several incidences have been reported where the firm’s employees and contractors conspire to divert fertiliser worth hundreds of millions to wrong destinations in the North-Rift. "The county government is investigating the twenty-six and other NCPB staff who were involved in the fertiliser scam because we cannot let criminals go unpunished," he said. NCPB chairman Geoffrey King'ang'i said many farmers were losing out from the acts of cartels hell-bent on reselling the lot of low-cost government fertiliser.
