21C music celebrated in Royal Conservatory festival


Many of the compositions presented in the 21C Music Festival at the Royal Conservatory are being heard by an audience for the first time. Commissioning new compositions enriches the supply from which orchestras and arts organizations can draw when creating contemporary music programs. These commissions are part of a grand scheme, headed by Kronos Quartet, but involving numerous arts organizations including the conservatory to commission 50 new works over five years. Her two compositions, “Snow Angel” and “Sivunittinni, receiving their world premieres, have been arranged by Jacob Garchick One of the most prominent Canadian artists presenting at the conference running from May 25 to May 29 is Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq.
