A Gorakhpur court has given life imprisonment sentence to the prime accused in a 2007 murder that triggered communal violence in the area. “Without any provocation, the accused attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon, in which Raj Kumar suffered serious injuries. Raj Kumar was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the next morning. Based on the complaint of the victim’s father Rajendra Prasad Agrahari, a murder case was registered against nine persons at the Gorakhpur Kotwali. Government Counsel (Gorakhpur) Pramod Kumar Maurya said the court in 2012 sentenced Shafiullah to life imprisonment in the case.
